Every Wednesday evening throughout the summer, the Flaggy 5 became a highly anticipated event for runners and walkers of all abilities, hosted by the Warrnambool Running Club at Flagstaff Hill. Set against the stunning backdrop of the area, with breathtaking views of the ocean and nearby beaches, the event attracted a growing number of participants, consistently breaking attendance records and drawing more people each week.
The Flaggy 5 offered both a 5km and a 2.5km route, designed to cater to runners, joggers, and walkers alike. The 5km course took participants on a scenic out-and-back route to Granny’s Grave, a historic local landmark with deep ties to the region’s maritime history. Along the way, everyone was treated to picturesque views of the ocean, the beach, and the surrounding landscape—making the event as much about enjoying the scenery as it was about physical activity. For those seeking a more relaxed pace, the 2.5km route provided a shorter alternative while still allowing participants to experience the stunning coastal views.
One of the standout features of the Flaggy 5 was its sense of community. Local businesses and sponsors supported the event, and 50% of the proceeds were donated to the Crystal Lee Foundation, a local charity that assists those in need. This charitable aspect gave the event an extra layer of meaning, as participants knew their efforts were contributing to a worthy cause while enjoying the camaraderie of the event and the beautiful surroundings.
The Flaggy 5’s welcoming atmosphere made it ideal for everyone—from seasoned runners aiming for a personal best to walkers simply looking to enjoy a social outing. The event’s growing popularity, reflected in its record-breaking attendance each week, highlighted the strong sense of inclusivity and community that made it so special.
